The following are non-invasive therapies indicated for the symptomatic relief and management of pain- whether it’s chronic, post-surgical or past-traumatic acute.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS): A safe effective alternative to pharmacological approaches to pain control with minimal side effects and it is non-addictive. Good for chronic, past traumatic and surgical pain relief.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES): This causes an involuntary muscle contraction passively. It is used to re-educate paralyzed muscle tissue, prevent atrophy and improve circulation.

Interferential (IF): This is an anti-inflammatory current. It stimulates muscle nerves to relaxation providing relief from chronic, post-traumatic and post-surgical pain. It has a massaging effect.

Microcurrent: A low current sent to cells of the body. It is so faint that it doesn’t stimulate sensory nerves in muscles. It increases the ATP or energy production in cells which increase tissue healing.

Ultrasound: Ultrasonic waves enter the body as a heat wave which penetrates deep into the tissues for healing.

Steamed Heat: Steamed heat is especially effective in providing increased circulation, comfort, and relaxation for pain relief.

Cold Packs: Cold therapy slows the circulation down and reduces inflammation and swelling. Its numbing effect on nervous tissues diminishes the pain and muscle spasm reactions.

Mr. David Wetzel, PT, with In-Home Physical Therapy determines the correct application of these pain relieving modalities.
